Relax in the various nature reserves of De Veluwe and look for the Dutch big five. Discover the Dutch Venice named Giethoorn by longboat and be welcomed into the year 1742.

Departure dates 2020 :
Individual trip based on your own transport - this trip is generally available from mid-March to the end of April and mid-August to the end of September and can be fully adapted to your own wishes. You can always contact us to discuss other dates.
Day 1
Sunday morning you will depart from home and arrive at your private two-person Lodge on the Veluwe. Make use of the free walking- and cycling routes and spend the day making the most beautiful trips across the Veluwe and spot the Dutch big five, or climb the 30-meter high tower for a gorgeous view from above. Would you rather spend your day relaxing? This is possible in the tropical indoor swimming pool of your hotel, which is equipped with a sauna and solarium. Finish the day with a delicious 3-course dinner in the restaurant of your hotel.

Day 2
Enjoy a delicious breakfast on Monday morning and spend some extra time in the relaxing Veluwe, if you wish, before departing to our Venice of the north: Giethoorn. This name is due to the village's many waterways and bridges. In the afternoon you have time to discover the area on water in a unique longboat.

Day 3
Today you have the time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Weerribben-Wieden National Park by bicycle. With over 10,000 hectares, the park is the largest contiguous low peat bog area in North-West Europe. Here you will find yourself in a labyrinth of ponds, lakes, ditches, mysterious-looking swamp forests, vast reed plots and flowery meadows. The park is also a nursery for special plant and animal species and a base for sailing, cycling and walking holiday makers. If you want to discover the area, but not by bicycle, it is also possible to rent a solex. Are you traveling with children? Take on the challenge in the climbing forest, learn archery or work together to escape from an escape room. There is something for everyone in Giethoorn!

Day 4
After breakfast you will depart to Bourtange, where you will be welcomed in the year 1742. However, do not be rushed as there are a few interesting stops en route. In the morning you will visit the Camp Westerbork Memorial Centre, where you will learn about life in the camp. In the afternoon you have the opportunity to discover the mystery behind the oldest monuments of the Netherlands: the Hunebedden.

Day 5
On Thursday you will have the full day to explore the year 1742 in Bourtange, a unique historic town close to the German border. The day will start with a breakfast served by people in historical clothing. Afterwards, you can spend the day learning about the town’s history from 1580 to 2004 through the many sights that date from that time. In the evening you will depart to Pieterburen for a good night sleep before starting the voluntary work.

Day 6
You will wake up across the street from the Seal Centre and enjoy a free morning in the spa of your hotel. In the afternoon you assist an experienced seal nurse with the day care and rehabilitation of the sick and injured seal patients. You will experience seals in different phases and rotate between the seals in intensive care, recovery and final phase. Next to working with the nurse, you will receive additional information about the care of seals through a tour and informative films to expand your knowledge. At the end of the day you will receive a certificate seal caregiver!

Day 7
On the last day you will volunteer in the morning at the beach, where you will clean up in order to reduce the number of injured seals in the future by preventing the waste from disappearing into the ocean. Hopefully, you are lucky and experience that one of the recovered seals is released back into their home. In the afternoon you can relax and enjoy a well-deserved lunch to end this special week.
